Living as Saints Should Live

This week's assignment comes from Romans 12 - 16.

Romans 13:11 says, "...now it is high ^atime to awake out of ^bsleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed."

And to supplement that verse, Ezekiel 3:20 says, "When a ^arighteous man doth ^bturn from his ^crighteousness, and commit iniquity, ... he shall die..."

And Doctrine and Covenants 14:7 teaches, "And, if you ^akeep my commandments and ^bendure to the end you shall have ^ceternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God."

In other words, we need to wake up and start doing those things we believe are right!  We must continue in well-doing throughout our lives; we must continue in seeking righteously after our Savior.  It is also vital that we endure to the end, listen to the prophets, and pray for help in overcoming our sins.

 Part of this assignment was to read through Romans 12 & 13, and list what Paul taught would help lead the saints (Christian people) to salvation.  Here are some of the things I found:

• Give your all to God - live as Christ lived, submitting your will to God's. (12:1)
• Give to the poor. (12:13)
• Beware of pride: Be humble and united. (12:16)
• Don't fear man more than God. Always choose the right! (13:3)
• Keep the commandments! (13:9)

Of course, Paul gave much more advice than this.  What are some of the teachings you found in these chapters that stood out to you?

Finally, from Romans 14:1-13, and Romans 15:1-3, I learned that God is able to make weak things strong, and it's not our responsibility to judge (that responsibility belongs to Christ).  We all have weaknesses, but we should strive to help one another and remember that Christ is the perfect judge.  If we don't live this counsel, then we are not really Christians - we must be of one heart and one mind.  (See also D&C 38:25-27)
