A-MAZE-ing Progress

Ryan's therapy appointments went really well today! First up was occupational therapy. Ryan was able to express the frustrations and feelings that he's been dealing with, and set a few goals that he wants to work towards, including getting back to work, and driving again. His therapist did a few tests with Ryan, including a timed peg-board test. Ryan had to use one hand to pick up one peg at a time and fill up the board. Then he had to pull all of the pegs out of the board, also one at a time. Ryan had a little more trouble doing this test with his left hand.

Next was speech therapy. This therapist administered the same standardized test that Ryan had taken the day before he was discharged from the rehabilitation facility in Idaho Falls. The test was still difficult for Ryan, but when he got to the part with the mazes, he was able to complete them!!! He felt like it was still harder than it should have been, but he felt good that he could do the mazes because the last time he tried he wasn't able to do them at all! 💜💜💜

He still won't have physical therapy until next week, but it looks like he'll be going to each type of therapy twice a week.

Since we were already at Ryan's work place, and he was feeling better after seeing his own progress, Ryan felt ready to stop in and see some of his co-workers. We have been so full of gratitude for all of the support from everyone! We don't know who all donated vacation time to Ryan, but we greatly appreciate those who did! It allowed Ryan to receive a couple more paychecks than he would have with just his own saved PTO and sick leave. And all of the prayers and cards and kind messages have meant the world to us! Ryan felt so happy to see everyone, even if he was a little overwhelmed. He left in a much better mood than he had started the day with. 😊

With that encouraging morning, and after resting a while this afternoon, Ryan has now decided to pull out his 3-D dirigible model and see if he can figure any of it out. 😃 Just the fact that he's trying is huge -- it's such a confusing thing!
